Heather Hinam

I've devoted much of my life to helping people reconnect with the natural world. The details that drive ecosystems have always fascinated me and this fuelled my studies through three university degrees, culminating in a Ph.D. in Ecology and Conservation Biology from the University of Alberta (Canada). After all those years in school, one might say I'm a glutton for punishment, but I really just enjoy learning. I also love to share that knowledge with anyone and anything willing to listen.

My art and photography is a way to share my knowledge and fascination with nature. I like to pick unusual subjects that most would normally miss on a walk through the woods. It's that drive to celebrate the amazing in the everyday that has fuelled many an inspiration for my blog, The Naturalist's Miscellany (http://naturalistsmiscellany.wordpress.com) and has now led me to launch my new business: Second Nature, Adventures in Discovery (www.discoversecondnature.ca). This new venture offers nature-based tourism and educational experiences for visitors to Manitoba’s Interlake region and beyond. Second Nature also offers private naturalist services for those wanting to discover the world around them, starting in their own backyard.
